Image Storage
IBM Life Sciences followed up the launch of its integrated storage management technology for hospitals, clinics and other medical facilities to protect, manage and access medical images with storage capacity upgrades from its previous technology. The IBM Medical Archive Solution consists of IBM disk and tape storage, server systems and storage management software that are all preconfigured, tested and customized for PACS applications. Enhancements include the ability to store all images on fast disk, rather than optical disk, technology.
Several IT companies - Siemens Medical Solutions ,Agfa Healthcare ,Fujifilm Medical Systems and Philips Medical Systems - have either completed or are in the process of integrating the IBM technology into their respective PACS and image management systems.
The technology can be utilized for short-term viewing or long-tern archival with up to 80 terabytes of storage capacity that can be expanded on demand.
TDK Medical at SCAR featured its full line of medical-grade, archive-quality recording media for management of medical images at SCAR. The company displayed its CDRS-1100Auto TP, CDRS-1100Auto TP2 and CDRS-1100AD medical CD recording stations, turnkey hardware and software for recording multimodality medical images on to CD and DVD.
The CDRS-1100Auto TP recording station receives patient studies from imaging modalities and records studies to CD or DVD, along with storing them in a local database. The station connects to a DICOM network switch or hub via 100BASE-TX Ethernet connections.
CDRS-1100Auto TP2 system is TDK's highest output medical CD recording station. It features a server-class PC and dual CD or DVD recorders housed in an automated Rimage unit.
The CDRS-1100AD station provides the same basic functionality as the CDRS-1100Auto TP, without including the Rimage II CD production station. This unit also can be connected to a DICOM-compliant network to record and share diagnostic information.
