HPS, MedAssets HSCA align for purchasing power

Group purchasing organizations (GPOs) The Hospital Purchasing Service (HPS) and MedAssets HSCA are combining their respective resources.

Under the five-year pact, HPS will remain an independent, not-for-profit GPO. HPS' annual purchase volume is more than $500 million. HPS is headquartered in Middleville, Mich., and services the healthcare and long-term care industry.

MedAssets HSCA program offers information technology and e-catalog tools designed to reduce supply chain costs. MedAssets HSCA, of St. Louis, Mo., is the third-largest GPO in the United States, serving more than 16,000 healthcare providers nationwide.
