R2 Technology and CADx Systems drop year-old lawsuits

One year after launching mutual patent infringement lawsuit against each other, R2 Technology Inc. and CADx Systems Inc. this week dropped their legal actions.

The companies dismissed their respective cases "without prejudice."

R2 initially filed its case against CADx and Qualia Computing Inc. on Sept. 27, 2002, alleging that CADx's Second Look computer-aided detection (CAD) system infringed on three patents held by R2. These patents covered ways in which R2's products, including the R2 ImageChecker CAD system, scan, process and display images. Qualia Computer, which merged with CADx Systems in October 2002, filed a countersuit against R2 on Oct. 2, 2002.

Both companies' CAD systems are FDA-cleared and available for commercial sale and distribution.
