Kodak to debut RIS 2010 in the U.S. in 2004

Eastman Kodak Co. this week says it plans to make its radiology information system (RIS) available in the United States next year.

Kodak currently is marketing the Kodak RIS 2010 in Europe and Australia. The company in May completed an install of the RIS at John Hunter Hospital in New South Wales, Australia. The facility performs approximately 87,000 radiological exams per year. Kodak's Health Imaging division has seven other installations of RIS 2010 in progress at seven other regional hospitals, which comprise the Hunter Area Health Service.

L. Jeffrey Markin, general manager of Kodak's Healthcare Information Systems, says one reason for Kodak's decision to bring the RIS 2010 to the States is that approximately 80 percent of U.S. hospitals have RIS that are more than 10 years old. "A large opportunity exists to install new systems," Markin added.
