Hologic and Aloka converge on ultrasound products

Hologic Inc. and Aloka Co. Ltd. are partnering on a distribution and manufacturing venture for ultrasound products.

Hologic will have exclusive distribution rights in the United States for ultrasound products manufactured by Aloka and customized to Hologic's specifications for three years, with automatic one-year renewal options. Hologic's exclusive distribution rights extend to radiology-based sales where breast imaging systems are utilized.

In turn, Aloka will manufacture a high-performance diagnostic ultrasound system primarily for breast imaging for Hologic under a joint label, as well as compatible optional components and future technological enhancements and upgrades.

The system will feature Aloka's proprietary ProSound package including Digital Pure Beam imaging, tissue harmonic echo technologies, and 3D color Doppler.

For use in mammography, Hologic manufactures the Lorad Selenia full-field digital mammography system and the Affinity series of screen-film mammography systems.
