Industry Roundup: E-Z-EM, McKesson, Varian

Diagnostic imaging technology provider E-Z-EM is dabbling in anti-terrorism products. The company announced that its RSDL reactive skin decontamination lotion has received designation and certification as a Qualified Anti-Terrorism Technology by the Department of Homeland Security and was granted certification under the Support Anti-Terrorism by Fostering Effective Technologies (SAFETY) Act of 2002. The designation and certification of RSDL under the SAFETY Act will extend certain liability protections to E-Z-EM and its customers (whether public or private) in the event RSDL is used in response to a terrorist incident.
 
Henry County Medical Center, a 142-bed hospital located in Paris, Tenn., recently selected McKesson's Paragon community hospital information system to help caregivers provide safer, more efficient care through the use of EHRs. The medical center will deploy Paragon's comprehensive, integrated clinical and financial solution, along with McKesson's medical imaging and document imaging systems.

The new radiotherapy center Equip Modern Cancer Clinic in northeastern Belgium plans to install Varian Medical Systems’ Clinac linear accelerators at its new department in Genk and a third accelerator that will replace an older machine at Hasselt. Both sites will also have Varian’s ARIA information and image management system and Eclipse treatment planning systems. The systems should be operational by April 2007.
