Siemens plugs new generation health information system at Canadian hospital
Siemens Medical Solutions, in cooperation with Siemens Canada Limited, has deployed its Soarian Clinical Access at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto, Ontario.
St. Michael is a teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Toronto, and the Canadian beta site for Soarian, Siemens new generation health information system. St. Michael's is now live on Soarian Clinical Access for connecting its clinical applications and databases to provide one main source for patient information.
Siemens said that more timely access to lab and radiology reports and images is provided through enterprise-wide integration with Siemens Novius Radiology Information System (RIS) and Sienet Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).
The new system, which forms the backbone of St. Michael's electronic health record (EHR), can now serve up to 4,500 healthcare providers.
In addition, St. Michael plans to install Siemens entire Soarian software platform, including Siemens Pharmacy and Soarian Cardiology, Soarian Scheduling, Soarian Clinical Team, Soarian Physician Module, and Siemens Med Administration Check system, which uses bar code technology to alert nurses to potential medication administration errors. St. Michael is also using technology and services from IBM, a Siemens Health Services strategic technology partner.
