Elekta introduces Leksell Gamma
Elekta Inc. has unveiled its fourth-generation Leksell Gamma Knife 4C for performing intracranial stereotactic radiosurgery for treating brain disorders.
The Atlanta, Ga.-based company said the new enhancements are designed to improve workflow, increase accuracy and provide integrated imaging capabilities.
The integrated imaging, powered by the Leksell Gamma Plan, can integrate images from multiple sources for precise treatment. Elekta says the images also can be exported on a CD-ROM, so the referring physician can receive pre-op or post-op images for reference and follow-up.
Gamma Knife surgery is used for a variety of neurological disorders, including AVMs, vestibular schwannomas, meningiomas, pituitary tumors, trigeminal nerve targets and brain metastases. Research is being conducted on other possible uses of Leksell Gamma Knife, such as treating epilepsy, Parkinson's disease and uveal melanoma.
