Montefiore beefs up its MR technology with Philips 3T system

Philips Medical Systems has rolled out its latest in MR technology, the Intera 3.0 Tesla MRI system, at New York's Montefiore Medical Center.

The high-field MRI system will enable physicians to acquire images up to six times faster than when using lower magnet systems as a result of Philips' Sense imaging technique.

According to Philips, Montefiore is currently using the scanner for the head, neck and spine as well as muscular skeletal and cardiovascular applications. The system will also be used for researching functional MRI (fMRI), an MR procedure that uses MR imaging to show brain activity.

In the future, Montefiore plans on performing total-body MR exams. Total-body imaging can help clinicians track arterial blood flow from the aorta to the toes without having to subject patients to invasive procedures, such as catheterization.
