IDX buys PointDx
IDX Systems Corp. is expanding the depth of its IDX Imagecast RIS/PACS with the announcement this week of its acquisition of PointDx Inc., a developer of structured medical reporting technology based in Winston-Salem, N.C. According to IDX, PointDx structured reporting technology will be directly integrated into Imagecast.
With structured reporting in Imagecast, healthcare providers can create properly structured reports utilizing a common medical vocabulary and incorporating key images, which can be used to launch the full image set electronically. The improved diagnostic report is designed to enable improved outcomes monitoring, better serve the referring physician and help automate or remove steps in the coding.
The purchase price is expected to be approximately $8 million, IDX said. The transaction will be paid out over the course of an earn-out through 2005. IDX anticipates a fourth-quarter cash payout of approximately $3 million.
The integrated Imagecast/PointDx system is expected to begin pilot tests at select customer sites in the first half of 2005.
