GE announces product enhancements for women's healthcare systems

GE Healthcare this week released enCore, new software enhancements for its Lunar Prodigy Advance bone densitometer.

The technology is designed to help clinicians measure body fat and bone loss during a single exam, significantly improving the detection of osteoporosis, GE said.

New features of the enCore software that can better predict fracture include: femur strength index, which provides advanced hip assessment; 10-year personalized fracture risk, which provides a calculator for predicting a patient's personal fracture risk within 10 years; and body composition measurements, which provides references from standard spine and femur scans as well as abdominal to hip fat ratios.

In related product news, GE released new volume ultrasound capabilities on its Voluson 730 Expert system, a women's healthcare ultrasound system. The upgrade allows clinicians to acquire, optimize, navigate and analyze volumetric data in real time.

According to Terri Bresenham, VP and general manager of GE's Global diagnostic ultrasound unit, volume ultrasound is adding new perspectives and clinical value in obstetrics, gynecology and breast ultrasound applications. "With Voluson 730 Expert, clinicians can simultaneously view and compare three orthogonal planes for added diagnostic confidence," she said.
