Calgary Scientific, ClearCanvas form alliance
ClearCanvas, a developer of open-source healthcare applications, and Calgary Scientific Medical Group, a provider of advanced visualization and analysis software, announced a strategic alliance at the 2008 Society of Imaging Informatics of Medicine (SIIM) meeting in Seattle.
Norman Young, president of the Toronto-based ClearCanvas said that the Calgary, Alberta-based Calgary Scientific has embraced the extensible open-source RIS/PACS platform by building a set of commercial advanced visualization tools. “Their powerful, intuitive tools are a welcome addition to what we hope will be a thriving ecosystem that includes both open source and commercial add-ins,” Young added.
“ClearCanvas and their open-source model represent a very innovative approach for expanding access to healthcare technology and improving its capabilities. Our goal from the beginning has been to improve the value of medical imaging by developing user-friendly advanced visualization tools and making them more accessible to radiologists, physicians and ultimately patients,” said Byron Osing, MD, CEO of Calgary Scientific.
