Barco, Medicsight partner on virtual colonoscopy

Advanced visualization and diagnostic imaging display developer Barco of Kortrijk, Belgium, and computer-aided detection (CAD) firm Medicsight of London have signed a partnership agreement for virtual colonoscopy software. The companies will incorporate Medicsight's ColonCAD image analysis software tools within Barco's Voxar 3D ColonMetrix virtual colonography application.

The ColonCAD software is designed to support the detection and segmentation of abnormalities within the colon that may potentially be adenomatous polyps. The ColonMetrix application is a virtual colonoscopy workflow and reporting system that allows radiologists to interpret a CT colonography study and generate a report. Barco said that the integration of Medicsight’s CAD application into its ColonMetrix software will enable faster recognition of suspect lesions during virtual colonoscopy.

The CAD function integrated with Voxar 3D ColonMetrix is not currently available for promotion or sale in the U.S., according to the companies.
