Varian appoints Leibel to board of directors

Varian Medical Systems has appointed Steven Leibel, MD, professor of radiation oncology at Stanford University School of Medicine and the Ann and John Doerr Medical Director of the Stanford Cancer Center, to the company's board of directors.

Leibel is replacing Allen Lichter, MD, who retired from the board to devote full attention to his duties as CEO of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, according to the Palo Alto, Calif.-based firm.

Leibel has also been appointed to the board's nominating and corporate governance committee.
