Cook sues Edwards Lifesciences over heart valve patent

Cook, a subsidiary of medical device firm Cook Group, has filed suit in a Dusseldorf district court against Edwards Lifesciences claiming that Edwards' Sapien transcatheter heart valve directly infringes on its patent.

Cook has asked the court to issue a cease and desist order to prevent the Irvine, Calif.-based Edwards from manufacturing, importing, exporting, or selling the device (German Patent DE 60128069T2).

Cook has also asked for an accounting of all commercial activities for the infringing product and a judgment for damages, the Bloomington, Ind.-based company said.

On Feb. 1, Edwards announced it had yet not seen a copy of the lawsuit.
