Molecular Imaging & Nuclear Medicine gain mindshare
Advanced hybrid imaging systems, specifically PET-CT and SPECT-CT systems, will be on display at RSNA that incorporate key elements required for molecular imaging. Vendors are focusing on variations in design, logistics and more targeted, tailored imaging. Offerings allow for larger images and viewing from any platform.
GE Healthcare (Booth #7730) is showcasing the DISCOVERY STE PET-CT system. The new Discovery STE provides physicians with a wide range of clinically relevant capabilities and true hybrid imaging flexibility, allowing them the opportunity to diagnose patients with cancer, heart disease, and neurological conditions earlier and better and to monitor a patient's course of treatment, GE says. At the heart of the Discovery STE is the Discovery Dimension Console that is integrated to optimize PET-CT workflow.
GE also is highlighting the Discovery VCT 64-slice PET/CT system. The unit expands on the success and advanced technology of volume CT by combining its LightSpeed VCT and Discovery PET systems.
The company also is featuring advances in the Infinia Hawkeye nuclear medicine system in coverage and acquisition time. The Infinia Hawkeye 4 (4-slice) increases diagnostic confidence and efficiency for lesion localization and attenuation correction, GE says. Evolution for Bone is a new suite of reconstruction tools for GE's Infinia with Xeleris functional imaging workstation. Additionally, for cardiac applications, GE in collaboration with UltraSPECT is showcasing the Xpress.cardiac, the new Wide Beam Reconstruction (WBR) technology for faster nuclear cardiovascular imaging.
Lastly, GE is showcasing cyclotrons for PET radioisotope production through its new PETtrace10 that provides customers with PET radioisotope production, offering PET radiopharmaceutical users increased capacity and reliability for producing PET radioisotopes, according to GE.
Philips Medical Systems (Booth #1129) is touting developments in hybrid imaging with its GEMINI line of PET-CT systems. The GEMINI GXL features an open PET-CT design, along with excellent image quality and throughput performance. Philips is displaying its new PET-CT workstation - a fast, customizable, and automated tool for the review and analysis of PET-CT examinations.
Philips also is highlighting Precedence SPECT-CT with its Astonish reconstruction algorithm for PET-like resolution. Precedence is designed to perform currently reimbursable nuclear medicine and CT procedures and as a platform for future molecular imaging advances. The system can perform coronary CT angiography, calcium scoring and attenuation corrected myocardial perfusion in one imaging session.
Siemens Medical Solutions' (Booth #4337) Molecular Imaging division is demonstrating its commitment to the creation of new technologies that will improve the diagnosis and treatment of disease, including molecular biomarkers, preclinical imaging products for research, and advanced imaging and software solutions specifically designed for all aspects of molecular imaging. Key highlights include Siemens' Symbia TruePoint SPECT*CT system, which combines the functional sensitivity of SPECT with the anatomical detail of diagnostic multislice CT, as well as its Biograph PET-CT product family, both of which provide clinicians with greatly improved imaging clarity and diagnostic confidence.

The t.cam Signature Series cameras provide optimal image quality for whole body, cardiac SPECT and general SPECT studies. The t.cam's syngo-based e.soft workstation can turn any laptop, tablet or PC into an e.soft station with syngo DICOM connectivity, automatic body contouring, ultra high-efficiency, HD4 detectors and increased throughput for 90-degree SPECT studies.
