NDI launches new tracking marker for computer-assisted surgery
Northern Digital, Inc. (NDI), a provider of 3D measurement technology for medical applications, has released of a new tracking marker for use with its Polaris line of products that are integrated into computer-assisted surgery devices (CAS).
The Radix lens (patent pending) is a new passive tracking technology, designed for use in harsh surgical environments, according the Waterloo, Ontario-based company. The surface of the marker is a clear, smooth plastic hemisphere that sheds liquid contamination. If the contamination collects on the marker sufficiently enough to interrupt tracking, the marker can be cleaned.
The company said that the retro-reflective Radix lens is designed to work with the Polaris and Polaris Spectra systems and is compatible for use with existing markers.
