Dilon merges molecular breast imaging with Terason ultrasound
Dilon Technologies, a provider of molecular breast imaging, has formed an alliance with Terason Ultrasound to offer an expanded imaging capability when molecular breast imaging and ultrasound may be required.
The Newport News, Va.-based Dilon said its breast-specific gamma imaging (BSGI) is a molecular breast imaging technique that can see lesions independent of tissue density and discover very early stage cancers, particularly for women with high-risk factors or that present with questionable mammograms. With BSGI, metabolic activity is assessed and cancerous cells generally display as hot spots.
The Burlington, Mass.-based Terason provides integrated patented microsystem technology with an Apple MacBook Pro. The Terason t3000 ultrasound system offers imaging performance with the portability and functionality of a laptop. When used as a complement to the Dilon 6800 gamma camera, physicians can move from BSGI to ultrasound without leaving the exam room, according to Dilon.
Terason’s ultrasound system is built on an Apple platform coupled with Windows operating system to provide networking capabilities, compatibility with various applications, standard connections, and software updates, the company said. The system also includes DICOM, wireless, integrated CD/DVD and USB capability.
