Cardinal Health names new CEO, chairman

Cardinal Health of Dublin, Ohio, has named George Barrett its new chairman and CEO.

Barrett joined Cardinal in January 2008 and has served as vice chairman and CEO of its healthcare supply chain services segment. He replaces R. Kerry Clark, who announced his retirement would be effective upon the completion of the spinoff of CareFusion.

Simultaneous to Barrett's appointment, the Cardinal board also authorized a $500 million share repurchase program, with the objective of offsetting dilution from equity grants associated with the company’s long-term employee incentive program.
