Connected Nation adds Ohio and Illnois to broadband mapping initiative
Nonprofit organization Connected Nation recently released its interactive broadband mapping platform in its state-based initiatives of Ohio and Illinois.
According to the Washington, D.C.-based organization, BroadbandStat is designed to provide a multi-functional and comprehensive view of broadband in a state as a roadmap for increased high-speed Internet.
Connected Nation joined forces with geographical information systems software company ESRI to create the software.
Released in Tennessee earlier this month and following the Ohio and Illinois rollouts, Connected Nation stated that it plans to release BroadbandStat in nine more states and the territory of Puerto Rico in the future.
All Connected Nation partner states and territories will be using BroadbandStat to organize the results of data they are currently collecting on available broadband services, the organization stated. This activity is supported by State Broadband Data and Development Grant Program funds made available through the Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 for improving broadband accessibility across the nation, the organization added.
The new initiatives are publicly available on both state’s websites: www.connectohio.org and www.connectillinois.org.
