IBM acquires data management services company

IBM has acquired content management company Datacap to strengthen its ability to help organizations digitize, manage and automate its information assets, particularly in paper-intensive industries such as healthcare, insurance, government and finance. Financial terms were not disclosed.

An estimated15 petabytes of new information is being generated daily, and 80 percent of this new information is unstructured content, according to the Armonk, N.Y.-based IBM. Recognizing this challenge, Tarrytown, N.Y.-based Datacap enterprise content management (ECM) software supports image and data entry automation for most types of documents and forms, including medical claims, tax returns and documents such as invoices and shipping documents for precise business outcomes, IBM stated.

Datacap's client and partner investments in existing IBM and Datacap technologies will be preserved, IBM stated.

IBM intends to integrate Datacap within its ECM business, which is part of IBM's Software Solutions Group, the company added.
