Kela unveils personal health smartcard

Kela Medical has launched its pHR card, a technology developed to provide patients and their healthcare providers secure access to personal health records (PHRs).

The pHR card is a smartcard system with the capacity to manage medical reports, structured health data and diagnostic imaging, according to Kela, based in Whitby, Ontario.

All pHR card data are encrypted to help ensure that confidential information remains secure. The card will be compatible with new eHealth initiatives launched by the government, Kela stated.
