Nuance snaps up Webmedx
Nuance Communications has acquired Webmedx, a provider of transcription and editing services and clinical documentation technology for hospitals and clinics nationwide. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
The deal will bring complementary transcription leadership and scale to the company’s Nuance Healthcare division, according to Burlington, Mass.-based Nuance. Webmedx has made significant advancements in the conversion of unstructured, dictated/speech-recognized text into structured, actionable clinical information, Nuance stated. Webmedx customers include more than 100 hospitals, among them Bon Secours Health System and Catholic Healthcare West.
The acquisition of Atlanta-based Webmedx and its natural language processing-driven Quality Analytics application is also expected to accelerate development of Nuance’s clinical language understanding products, according to Nuance.
The Webmedx deal brings to Nuance the Medical Technology Education Center (MTEC). MTEC is the first Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity-approved online speech recognition editing and medical transcription school; and is a training resource focused on clinical documentation quality, Nuance added.
