Bayer debuts flame-retardant PC/ABS plastic for imaging

Bayer MaterialScience is introducing a specialty grade of resin designed for use in diagnostic imaging equipment, such as CT, MRI and PET scanners, workstations and kiosks.

Bayblend M303 FR is a nonreinforced, flame-retardant, amorphous, thermoplastic polymer blend of polycarbonate and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene copolymer (PC/ABS) for extrusion, blow molding and thermoforming, according to the Anaheim, Calif.-based company. It can be used in surface device applications contacting intact skin. Bayblend M303 FR PC/ABS meets the requirements of ISO 10993-5 (Cytotoxicity) and ISO 10993-10 (Irritation and Sensitization) guidelines.
