Optimum Reperfusion Approach to STEMI

Time is of the essence with STEMI patients and achieving rapid reperfusion is an essential step in their management. Primary PCI is preferred, but is not always available. In those cases, fibrinolysis as a beginning strategy is acceptable. But hospitals also should be allied within their community or region with those healthcare facilities that perform primary PCI for STEMI patients. Creating these STEMI networks is challenging but absolutely necessary for this vulnerable patient population.
Various antiplatelet and anticoagulant therapeutic approaches are now available to control bleeding and improve efficacy as well.
As we continually expand percutaneous approaches to more complex patient populations, it is important for physicians and cardiovascular professionals to stay abreast of the emerging data that help optimize procedures and outcomes.
