18 med innovations featured at Innovation Celebration
Eighteen new medical innovations were slated to be featured during The Premier healthcare alliance’s Innovation Celebration on June 14 at the 2011 Premier Annual Breakthroughs Conference and Exhibition in Nashville, Tenn.
The Premier healthcare alliance’s Innovation Celebration recognizes advances in healthcare by highlighting innovations of industry suppliers that are committed to improving patient outcomes, Premier, of Charlotte, N.C., stated. The innovations focus on issues ranging from newborn safety and preventing healthcare-associated infections to EMR interoperability.
All innovations were selected by a committee of clinicians and other Premier alliance members based on the ability to positively impact the healthcare industry. Criteria for selection included the uniqueness of the products, as well as their impact an unmet medical need.
Suppliers did not have to be contracted with Premier to be considered for participation in the Innovation Celebration. Participants included:
Abbott Diagnostics Division: HIV Ag/Ab Combo - Assists in the diagnosis of HIV-1/HIV-2 infection.
BioMerieux: VITEK 2 Mass Spec - Provides automated microbial identification (currently available as a research use only (RUO) product.
C.R. Bard: COREVIEW Monitoring System - Automates the process of monitoring vital indicator data related to urine output, fluid management and core body temperature to support timely treatment interventions.
Clear Advantage Collar: The ClearCollar - A transparent cervical collar that allows for continuous assessment of neck injuries.
GE Healthcare: Giraffe Shuttle - A transportable power source that connects to incubators and warmers, allowing for intra-hospital transport of newborn babies.
Hemosphere: HeRO graft - A vascular access device surgically implanted under the skin to create access for hemodialysis.
Linet Americas: Multicare Advanced Hospital Bed for High Acuity - Standard-sized bed platform with a programmable lateral rotation frame that helps to maintain and continuously improve the function of the respiratory and cardiovascular systems.
Maquet: Trimano 3D Support Arm - “Third arm assistant” for surgeons that positions the patient’s arm in orthopedic or trauma procedures.
Masimo: Masimo Pronto-7 - A palm-sized handheld device that spot checks hemoglobin in less than one minute.
Medtronic: Revo MRI - A pacing system safe for use in magnetic resonance imaging systems with pacemaker patients.
Olympus America: ScopeGuide - An instrument that employs magnetic endoscopic imaging to help GI physicians, colorectal surgeons and nurses visualize the colonoscope as it travels through the colon during a colonoscopy.
Philips Healthcare: IntelliVue Cableless Measurement Solution - Improves patient surveillance by transmitting vital signs information to a central nurse’s station to help clinicians with the early identification of deteriorating conditions.
Sundance Enterprises: Z-FLO Ancillary Positioner - A positioning product to help caregivers with premature infants.
TomoTherapy: TomoMobile - Combines a CT scanner and a linear accelerator for the delivery of image-guided, intensity-modulated radiation therapy.
Verizon Wireless: 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) - Provides the speeds for real-time transfer of files and information.
Welch Allyn: Connex Electronic Vitals Documentation System - Provides wireless transmission of patient vitals data from the point of care into the patient chart in the EMR.
WoundVision: WoundVision TIS (Thermal Imaging System) and iNSIGHT (Software) - Allows healthcare providers to predict and track wounds by using personalized patient health data and infrared thermographic images.
Xerox: FactSpotter - Software tool developed in France that reviews EMRs and has the ability to quickly predict the likelihood that patient has acquired a healthcare-associated infection during his or her stay in the hospital, while protecting private patient and physician data.
