Strand Genomics presents high-tech personalized medicine

Strand Genomics, the genomics software company in Rockville, Md., and San Francisco, announced April 1 that a selection of technology has been prepared for the company’s Strand Centers for Genomics and Personalized Medicine across the U.S.

The unveiling happened last week at the Annual Clinical Genetics Meeting in Nashville, Tenn. The new products are the StrandOmics and Avandis-NGS server edition software.

"StrandOmics provides all the scientific and medical information needed by medical geneticists to classify the variants in a patient's DNA that are associated with diseases,” remarked Dr. Preveen Ramamoorthy, Laboratory Director and Head of Clinical Diagnostics at Strand. “This allows them to annotate variants and to create reports that aide physicians in making accurate diagnoses faster."

Strand's genomics software is used in more than 2,000 research laboratories with an increasing interest in establishing U.S. centers. "As more and more people in laboratories are generating and consuming NGS data, there is a need to optimize processes for data sharing, scalability and efficiency of NGS analytics on a range of computing infrastructures," said Vamsi Veeramachaneni, MD, VP of Software Development at Strand.
