GE garners FDA approval for new PET/CT
The FDA has provided 510(k) clearance of GE Healthcare's Discovery IQ PET/CT system, the company announced Monday. GE reports that the system has the highest sensitivity known to the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) and the largest axial field of view--up to 26 cm.
GE reports that the system has the capacity to cut dose by up to half in half the scan time.
“By 2020, it’s estimated that 50 percent of people will develop cancer at some point in their lives and we also know that currently, approximately 70 percent of cancer patients do not respond to their initial chemotherapy treatment,” GE Healthcare PET/CT General Manager Wei Shen said in the release. “I’m excited about the recent FDA clearance of Discovery IQ, which will help physicians achieve their primary mission of delivering the best possible patient outcomes.”
