Frost & Sullivan honors new Philips PET/CT
Philips Healthcare has won the title of the 2014 North America Award for Technology Innovation Leadership from the market research firm Frost & Sullivan based on the integrated technology of the Vereos digital PET/CT system, Frost & Sullivan officials announced Nov. 26.
The Mountain View, Calif., market research giant conducted a sweep of the PET industry and found the Vereos to be the most competitive on the market based on a major redesign and silicon photomultiplier detectors, which have overcome some of the difficulties of conventional avalanche photodiodes, including issues with vibrations and heat affecting performance.
"Through a combination of hardware and software advances, the Vereos PET/CT offers superior sensitivity and volumetric resolution, which can potentially translate to much richer image quality, performance, reliability and diagnostic confidence in PET imaging," Frost & Sullivan principal analyst Nadim Michel Daher said in a press release.
Analysts remarked that early adoption of digital PET among teaching and research hosptials is picking up and that time-of-flight PET technology provided some marked improvements in the area of oncologic imaging, but not as much for neuro and cardiac PET. These areas are bound to see more growth and technological development in the coming years.
Frost & Sullivan’s North America Award for Technology Innovation Leadership is given out annually to companies that exemplify what the company determines to be excellent leadership, strategic product development and technological advancement based on interviews and comprehensive market analyses.
