Veterinary imaging keeps zoo radiologist hopping
The American Veterinary Medical Association is checking in with the only zoo in the U.S. to employ, fulltime, a board-certified veterinary radiologist.
Marina Ivančić, DVM, joined Chicago’s Brookfield Zoo last June. This week the association’s JAVMAnews caught up with her.
Brookfield is “one of only three zoos in North America to have a CT scanner on site,” the outlet reports. “Brookfield also has fluoroscopy and ultrasonography equipment on site and transports animals off-site for magnetic resonance imaging.”
From her home base there, Ivančić interprets images for zoos around the world and consults to help clients “practice high-level medicine, conduct studies and establish norms.”
She’s also engaged in teaching and research.
