SquareLoop debuts HIPAA-compliant healthcare text messaging system

SquareLoop, a provider of wireless location-based services, has introduced a text messaging system to enable secure transmission of data over public wireless networks, giving the healthcare industry a unique data communications solution for its mobile workforce.

The text messaging system, a new feature on SquareLoop's Mobile Alert Network, is HIPAA-compliant for regulations governing encryption of patients' electronic records and provides an application for secure mobile-originated text messages.

The Hospice of the Florida Suncoast, which will be one of the first customers to deploy the secure text messaging product, needed a secure way for its staff to communicate in real-time about their patients' conditions, according to the Reston, Va.-based SquareLoop.

The SquareLoop secure text messaging system will be commercially available in June 2008, the company said.
