Virtual reality lifts virtual colonoscopy
If you think CT colonography is cool, wait till you see virtual holography CT colonography.
“You can cut away the parts of what you don’t want to see and manipulate it so that you improve what you do want to see,” Judy Yee, MD, a radiologist who’s pioneering ways to use the developing technology, tells the news center at UC-San Francisco.
“It’s a more engaging way to read large data sets,” Yee adds. “With the added dimension, you can see flat, more dangerous lesions better.”
Yee, who is vice chair of radiology and biomedical imaging at UCSF and chief of radiology at the San Francisco VA, says virtual holography CT also holds promise for reaching beyond virtual colonoscopy and into neurological, cardiac and musculoskeletal applications.
