Winscribe, Nuance expand speech recognition agreement

Winscribe has expanded its licensing agreement with Nuance Communications of Burlington, Mass., to provide a global dictation program integrated with speech recognition covering the U.S., U.K., Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

By embedding Nuance’s speech recognition into Winscribe’s software-based digital dictation, transcription management and workflow routing technology, dictations from authors can be automatically transcribed into text rather than routed for manual transcription.

Winscribe's system supports three modes of operation: client, server and mixed, according to Winscribe, of Chicago. The client mode recognizes text and returns it directly into the Winscribe author application. A workflow alternative is provided through the server mode, during which the recognition of Winscribe digital audio is performed on the central server. The mixed mode combines both workflows, giving authors the choice of immediate foreground recognition or deferred server recognition, Winscribe said.
