Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming a crucial component of healthcare to help augment physicians and make them more efficient. In medical imaging, it is helping radiologists more efficiently manage PACS worklists, enable structured reporting, auto detect injuries and diseases, and to pull in relevant prior exams and patient data. In cardiology, AI is helping automate tasks and measurements on imaging and in reporting systems, guides novice echo users to improve imaging and accuracy, and can risk stratify patients. AI includes deep learning algorithms, machine learning, computer-aided detection (CAD) systems, and convolutional neural networks.

Reader Survey: Some, but not much progress for PACS in cardiology

Of readers responding to least week’s poll, well below half (38.5percent) report that their cardiology department has integrated a PACSwith other department health IT systems.

Small practices lag in health IT

The degree of adoption of electronic medical records by U.S. doctorsdepends on the practice size, according to a study conducted byreleased by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

Reader Survey: Over half using PACS in oncology imaging

According to last week’s reader poll, 60 percent of respondents reportusing PACS to manage their radiation oncology images and information.
