Cardiac Imaging

While cardiac ultrasound is the widely used imaging modality for heart assessments, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and nuclear imaging are also used and are often complimentary, each offering specific details about the heart other modalities cannot. For this reason the clinical question being asked often determines the imaging test that will be used.

IHE Moves into Cardiology Enterprise

Have you ever had to view an ECG remotely and couldn't? Had add-on echo procedures go unbilled? Had to enter patient information into multiple cath lab systems (and feared you'd make a data entry error!)?

Inside the State-of-the-Art Cath Lab

The presence of high-resolution, flat-panel digital systems is increasing in the cardiac cath lab—just in time as placements of drug-eluting stents, coronary angiographies, atrial septal defect closures and EP procedures surge.

ACC Preview 2005

The exhibits at the 2005 American College of Cardiology Annual Scientific Sessions this month in Orlando, Fla., promise scores of solutions to advance the practice of cardiology.

GE introduces cardiac imaging techniques using HDMR

GE Healthcare unveiled new cardiac imaging techniques developed with its high definition magnetic resonance (HDMR) system at the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (SCMR) 8th Annual Scientific Sessions in San Francisco, Calif., Jan. 21 - 23.

A tale of two societies

A new professional organization - the Society of Cardiac Computed Tomography (SCCT) - was born on Jan. 10 when incorporation papers were filed by a group of 25 cardiologists and physicians practicing in the field of non-invasive cardiology.

MRI: New Attractions Prove Magnetic

MRI designers are thinking out of the box these days, with the innovative fruits of their creation such as open bore and big bore configurations, and higher field strength scanners, including 3Tesla (3T) and above, taking center stage.

CT: A Big Hit, No Matter How You Slice It

Cardiac imaging and 64-slice was at the heart of CT at last week's Radiological Society of North America meeting.

Upcoming events focus on developing cancer programs and cardiac imaging

The Adding, Updating & Expanding Comprehensive Cancer Screening Programs and Services for Hospitals & Health Systems conference will be held Feb. 10 - 11, 2005, in Las Vegas, Nev.

The nuclear imaging isotope shortage of molybdenum-99 may be over now that the sidelined reactor is restarting. ASNC's president says PET and new SPECT technologies helped cardiac imaging labs better weather the storm.

CMS has more than doubled the CCTA payment rate from $175 to $357.13. The move, expected to have a significant impact on the utilization of cardiac CT, received immediate praise from imaging specialists.

The newly cleared offering, AutoChamber, was designed with opportunistic screening in mind. It can evaluate many different kinds of CT images, including those originally gathered to screen patients for lung cancer.
