Olympus acquires endoscope maker
Olympus acquired all shares of the Stoughton, Mass.-based endoscope insertion device manufacturer Spirus Medical.
The acquisition was implemented through Gyrus ACMI, a consolidated subsidiary of Olympus based in the U.S., with the aim of acquiring Spirus’ endoscope insertion assistance technology.
Spirus will move to an Olympus office in Southborough, Mass., according to the Tokyo-based developer of medical and surgical products, which aims to develop new endoscopic systems by combining Spirus technology with its own.
