Vanguard to purchase Arizona Heart Institute

Under a definitive purchasing agreement, Phoenix-based Abrazo Health Care, a subsidiary of Vanguard Health Systems, will purchase the Arizona Heart Institute (AHI), an independent cardiovascular physician practice.

While the financial terms of the agreement remain undisclosed, the Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanguard said the deal will take place under a section 363 sale and is part of its reorganization plan to expand its cardiovascular network of community-based physicians.

The addition of AHI will add to Abrazo's portfolio that currently includes five hospitals including Arrowhead Hospital, Maryvale Hospital, Paradise Valley Hospital, Phoenix Baptist Hospital, and West Valley Hospital—all located in Phoenix.

According to Vanguard, the deal will be subject to the approval of the court.
