Enterprise Imaging

Enterprise imaging brings together all imaging exams, patient data and reports from across a healthcare system into one location to aid efficiency and economy of scale for data storage. This enables immediate access to images and reports any clinical user of the electronic medical record (EMR) across a healthcare system, regardless of location. Enterprise imaging (EI) systems replace the former system of using a variety of disparate, siloed picture archiving and communication systems (PACS), radiology information systems (RIS), and a variety of separate, dedicated workstations and logins to view or post-process different imaging modalities. Often these siloed systems cannot interoperate and cannot easily be connected. Web-based EI systems are becoming the standard across most healthcare systems to incorporate not only radiology, but also cardiology (CVIS), pathology and dozens of other departments to centralize all patient data into one cloud-based data storage and data management system.

The best just got better: Barco’s flagship 6MP display re-engineered to meet radiologists’ evolving needs

The first-ever Fusion display on the market – and now in its fourth generation. That’s Coronis Fusion 6MP LED. The latest version of Barco’s flagship product features even better image clarity and uniformity, raising radiologists’ reading efficiency and productivity to the next level.

Carestream’s latest PACS platform elevates the value of imaging by increasing likelihood of referrals using interactive reports

Physicians view Carestream’s latest version of Vue Reporting as an improvement over traditional text-only radiology reporting—and most indicate they would preferentially refer patients and peers to facilities that adopt more interactive, user-friendly reporting practices.

Barco proposes new DICOM color calibration standard to enhance accuracy of color medical imaging at RSNA show

Healthcare visualization expert Barco will share results of its research on color visualization of medical images, which indicate the need for a new calibration standard to ensure the color accuracy of medical displays. Tom Kimpe, PhD and vice president of technology and innovation for Barco Healthcare will present Barco’s findings in a paper entitled “Are Medical Displays Calibrated to GSDF or sRGB Sufficient for High Quality Visualization of Color Medical Images?” at RSNA 2014 at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois on December 1.

Grayhill debuts ultra-intuitive, optically bonded touch panel technology at RSNA

Advanced as many current medical devices may be, in numerous facilities technicians and physicians still manipulate ultrasound, CT and MRI images in 2D using a mouse and keyboard. Viewing 3D images also involves clicking menu selections, turning dials, rolling trackballs and the like. Even users of Projected Capacitive (PCAP) touch screens often contend with poor readability from reflective-light glare and other issues.

Carestream introduces compact Vita Flex CR System that delivers affordable, high quality digital imaging in diverse environments

Carestream will introduce its compact new Vita Flex CR system that delivers excellent image quality and can be positioned virtually anywhere in a healthcare facility. This new system’s flexible design enables it to operate vertically as well as horizontally, so it can process CR cassettes sitting on the floor, a tabletop or desktop or even from the back of a van.
