ACR releases 2018 radiology practice parameters, technical standards

The American College of Radiology (ACR) released four new and 23 revised documents in its 2018 Practice Parameters and Technical Standards.

The new versions cover the performance of endovascular embolectomy and revascularization in acute stroke, digital breast tomosynthesis, gallium-68 DOTATE PET/CT neuroendocrine tumors, and 18F-fluciclovine PET/CT for recurrent prostate cancer.  

The documents are available on the ACR website and will be effective Oct. 1, according to an ACR press release.  

“Each of these practice parameters and technical standards has undergone extensive review and promotes the latest in safe and effective radiology,” said Matthew Pollack, MD, chair of the ACR Committee on Practice Parameters and Technical Standards, in a prepared statement. “We are pleased to have collaborated with 13 national medical specialty societies on these new documents, which will advance radiology science and improve the quality of service to our patients.” 

Additional documents approved through separate medical physics and radiation oncology processes are are effective Aug. 1.
