Harvard Health Blog talks appropriate imaging
Writing for Harvard Medical School’s Health Blog, Ashish K. Jha, MD, MPH, recently commented on the importance of using imaging wisely, and cited one strategy to do just that.
The call to limit the use of unnecessary imaging is a familiar refrain to imaging professionals at this point, but Jha notes how frustrating the current process can be.
A solution, though, could lie in the approach dubbed “medical-imaging stewardship.” The idea, which Jha notes was the focus of a recent New England Journal of Medicine article, is essentially having imaging experts work with clinicians to determine the best course of action, whether through decision aids or more direct consultation.
“It may not be a cure-all, but it’ll be an important part of how we deliver the right care for all patients,” wrote Jha.
