Varian wins cancer care contract in U.K.

Over the next 18 months, Varian Medical Systems Inc. will deploy nine new linear accelerators, including a unit with its new On-Board Imaging system for image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT), as part of the latest wave of radiotherapy equipment projects announced by the Department of Health in the United Kingdom.

Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology near Liverpool, Christie Hospital in Manchester, Poole Hospital and two London hospitals - Royal Free and St. Barts - have all selected Varian radiotherapy solutions in 'Wave 6' of the Cancer Plan announcements. Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology will be the first to receive Varian's On-Board Imager purchased under the United Kingdom government's capital investment program.
