Wake Radiology seeks to join forces with UNC Rex
A joint venture is afoot between the oldest and largest radiology practice in North Carolina’s Triangle area and the healthcare system of one of the oldest hospitals in the U.S.
Wake Radiology (50 radiologists, #42 on the 2016 Radiology Business Journal Radiology 100) and UNC Rex Healthcare (operator of Rex Hospital, founded by a bequest from John T. Rex [1771-1839]) say their coming together will reduce costs for patients as well as pricing variations in the area.
The Raleigh-based News & Observer reports that the joint venture, if approved by state health regulators, “would also redefine longstanding business affiliations in the Triangle healthcare market. Rex has contracted with Raleigh Radiology, Wake Radiology’s primary competitor, for more than 50 years.”
Lyndon Jordan III, president and managing partner of Wake Radiology, tells the newspaper that the deal will enable his company to “become larger with a greater degree of subspecialization.”
