A radiologist is using CT images to identify human remains found in Cincinnati, in hopes that police can solve a murder case.
On Wednesday, a police search in Cincinnati led to the discovery of a human head, about three blocks from the site where a woman's torso was found last November. The county coroner, Lakshmi Sammarco, MD, is utilizing her background in radiology to use a CT scan to find out if the remains match and what evidence can be found on the body that investigators may have missed.
The images have yet to be processed, but they could reveal unseen information on who the victim was and what happened to her. For now, Sammarco told the Cincinnati Enquirer the woman is Black and was likely in her late 20s or early 30s. She had no tattoos or significant identifying markings.
According to the coverage, DNA testing and other forensic examinations are underway, while additional body parts remain missing. Further searches have been authorized in the area to locate any other evidence.
