A woman in Connecticut is suing a medical center after she says she suffered a stroke, was put into a CT scanner, then fell to the floor fracturing her ribs and vertebrae in her neck.
Monica Lynch and her attorneys filed the lawsuit against MidState Medical Center in a state Superior Court for the incident that allegedly took place on March 11, 2002. She claims the incident deprived her of an opportunity to receive interventions that could have reduced the damage from the stroke, which has resulted in cognitive impairment and reduced neurological function.
Lynch and her attorneys say she was not secured properly to the scanner table, and the incident could have been prevented. The fall also resulted in further medical expenses and a loss of earnings, in addition to distress.
According to CT Insider, MidState Medical Center has declined to comment on the lawsuit, but added that patient safety is its top priority.
MidState Radiology Associates is named as a co-defendant in the lawsuit, alongside Hartford HealthCare, which are both affiliated with MidState Medical Center.
