ARRT considers easing requirements for reinstating technologists
The board of trustees of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) may adopt a proposed policy change to its Rules and Regulations this summer that may enable formerly registered technologists to renew their ARRT registration easier.
The proposed policy change--which could become effective as early as Jan. 1, 2011--would streamline the renewal process for individuals who have been out of continuing education compliance for more than six months, according to the St. Paul, Minn.-based agency.
The provisions that are being proposed in regard to the re-qualification process will allow individuals to bypass the previously required educational program and become re-established by demonstrating compliance with ARRT’s Standards of Ethics via the completion the ARRT exam for the discipline(s) in which they seek reinstatement, the ARRT said.
However, the new terms also state that if the individual is unable to pass the exam in three attempts within three years, an education program must be completed. In addition, any examinations passed and certificates issued or reinstated under the new policy would be subject to the continued qualifications requirements of 2011.
In addition to several other proposals, this proposed change will appear in the 2010 Annual Report to Registered Technologists, an ARRT publication. The agency is encouraging comments on this and all of the proposed changes and the comments will be reviewed by the agency before the announcement of the final decision, slated for August.
