Boston Scientific introduces peripheral imaging catheter
Boston Scientific has launched its Atlantis 018 peripheral imaging catheter, designed for small vessel peripheral imaging.
The Atlantis catheter brings existing 40MHz coronary standard imaging resolution to peripheral interventions, delivering a high frequency peripheral catheter, according to the Natick, Mass.-based company.
“Until now, an IVUS [intravascular ultrasound] catheter was not available for peripheral vessels smaller than 8 mm,” said Hank Kucheman, senior vice president and group president for the cardiovascular division at Boston Scientific.
The company said its iLab ultrasound imaging system, which was launched in May 2006, allows physicians to see images inside the heart and vessels to assist with diagnosis. One benefit of IVUS is to offer a 360-degree view of the vessel wall from the inside, allowing for accurate assessment of the diseased vessel, according to Boston Scientific.
