Douglas takes helm of ACC

Pamela Douglas, MD, FACC, was installed as the president of the American College of Cardiology this week during the society's 54th annual scientific session, March 6 - 9, in Orlando, Fla.

Douglas is cardiology division chief and Ursula Geller professor of research in cardiovascular diseases at Duke University Medical Center, and director of cardiovascular research strategy at Duke Clinical Research Institute. She joined the college in 1985.

According to reports, one of Douglas' goals as president of ACC is to encourage more women to consider cardiology as a career. As the public becomes better educated about women's high risk for heart attacks and heart disease, the demand for women cardiologists will continue to grow.
