Edwards Lifesciences grants $4.6 million for CV research in 2009

Edwards Lifesciences will award a total of $4.6 million in 2009 for programs and facilities that work towards progressing research and innovative treatment solutions for patients suffering from cardiovascular disease.

The Irvine, Calif.-based company awarded $1.8 million in both community- and strategic-based grants to 107 nonprofit organizations that are leading fights against cardiovascular disease by increasing awareness or providing better education about the disease.

In addition, the company has alloted $2.8 million in outside grant cycle money to the University of California-Irvine for the advancement of the Edwards Lifesciences Center for Advanced Cardiovascular Technology.

Recently, as part of the grant fund, the company granted $50,000 to Children’s HeartLink—a global volunterr effort to train, teach and perform cardiac surgery for children all over the world.

The Edwards Lifesciences fund, advised by the Vanguard charitable endowment program, has awarded more than $14 million to nonprofit organizations since its launch in 2004.
