EU greenlights Medtronic's aortic valve delivery system

The European Union (EU) has granted Medtronic a CE mark for its CoreValve delivery system with AccuTrak Stability layer, which is used during transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI).

According to Minneapolis-based Medtronic, the AccuTrak technology facilitates control and accuracy during the deployment of the CoreValve device. The CoreValve system was indicated to treat patients with severe aortic valve stenosis without open-heart surgery and gained a CE mark in March 2007.

Currently, neither the CoreValve nor the AccuTrak system are approved for use in the U.S.
