FDA clears SonoSite catheter guidance system

SonoSite has received FDA clearance for its tracking and guidance technology for peripherally inserted central catheter line procedures, the LumenVu Catheter Guidance System.

The system combines near-infrared technology with a fiber optic stylet--which replaces a traditional guide wire--to allow visualization and tracking of a catheter tip as it moves through a vein, explained Bothell, Wash.-based SonoSite. The system does not rely on a magnetic field, the company added.
